This versatile, ready-to-use sauce lets you recreate the iconic tteokbokki, a popular dish made with chewy rice cakes simmered in a rich and flavourful sauce.
Inspired by Gungjung Tteokbokki, a royal court version of the traditional dish, Ottogi Korean Tteokbokki Sauce – Sweet Soy delivers a milder yet deeply savoury flavour. Made with soy sauce, garlic, and a touch of sweetness, this sauce creates a rich, umami-filled taste without any chilli heat.
Simply mix it with rice cakes, vegetables, beef, or your favourite add-ins to enjoy a well-balanced, traditional Korean dish. Also great as a dipping sauce for dumplings or grilled items, this pre-cooked sauce is ready to use whenever you are—no additional preparation needed.
How to use the sauce
Ingredients:
162.5ml OTOKI Korean Tteokbokki Sauce Sweet Soy
50ml water
500g tteok (rice cakes)
100g minced beef or bulgogi-style sliced meat
1/2 carrot, thinly sliced
1/4 onion, sliced
1/2 cup spring onion, chopped
2 shiitake mushrooms, sliced (can be substituted to portabello mushrooms)
Sesame seed for garnish
Instruction:
1. In a pan or wok, add 50ml water and 165ml of Sweet Soy Tteokbokki Sauce. Bring to a gentle boil.
2. Add the rice cakes, beef, carrots, onion, and mushrooms. Stir gently and cook over medium heat.
3. Once the rice cakes soften and the beef is nearly cooked, add the chopped spring onion. Continue to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
4. Simmer for 2–3 more minutes until the vegetables are tender and the sauce has slightly thickened.
5. Finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.
